Promotion of Journal of Mountain Science by its three scientific editors in the 3rd Badong International Geohazards Symposium (BIGS2021)

The 3rd Badong International Geohazards Symposium (BIGS2021) was successfully held in China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), Hubei Province, China, from November 26 to 28, 2021. BIGS2021 was convened by the Department of Geosciences of China University of Geosciences, National Natural Science Foundation of China, International Association for Engineering Geology and the Environment, China University of Geosciences, Engineering Geology Commission, China Geology Society, People's Government of Badong County, Hubei Province and Badong National Observation and Research Station for Geohazards.

This symposium focused on geohazards prevention & control in the reservoir area by the following five parts including: 1) education for geohazards prevention & control; 2) training for geohazard fine modeling and new technology of geohazard analysis and assessment; 3) academic reports; 4) Session discussions; 5) Poster contest. A great number of experts and scholars from 22 countries participated in this academic event and held in-depth discussions regarding five topics: "Evolution process of geohazards", "New technologies of geohazard observation", "Big data and artificial intelligence of geohazards", "Prediction & forecasting of geohazards" and "Prevention & control techniques of geohazards", which successfully attracted a great attention of the geoscience community.

Three scientific editors of Journal of Mountain Science (JMS), Prof. Ouyang Chao-jun, Prof. Yu Fang-wei and Prof. Dou Jie promoted successfully Journal of Mountain Science during the 3rd Badong International Geohazards Symposium (BIGS2021) in November 2021.

Prof. Ouyang Chao-jun gave a training course to the participants on the mass flow software which was developed by himself. He made a detailed introduction on the development of JMS, especially including the special issue of "Disaster Risk Reduction in Mountain Areas" which is being under call-for-paper now.

Prof. Yu Fang-wei chaired the session "Geohazards Assessment and Monitoring Alert Technology" and gave an academic presentation titled "Grain segregation and behavior of granular soils: a phenomenon and implication of granular flow" in the session of "Engineering Geological Characteristics of Geological Body and Catastrophic Mechanism". Meanwhile, as a scientific editor of JMS, he also popularized Journal of Mountain Science by a detailed introduction, which aroused a great focus on JMS for the future potential submissions.

Prof. Dou Jie gave an invited speech in the session of "Geohazards Assessment and Monitoring Alert Technology". He reported the influence of topography scale effect and different sampling strategies of machine learning on the landslide disaster assessment. He emphasized his identity as a scientific editor of JMS, and called for contribution from the participants to this journal.

Prof. YU Fangwei, scientific editor of JMS, introduced JMS to the audience before he delivered an academic presentation

Prof. OUYANG Chaojun, scientific editor of JMS, promoted JMS and called for papers for the special issue on Disaster Risk Reduction in Mountain Areas

Prof. DOU Jie, scientific editor of JMS introduced JMS to the participants in his session.
