Journal of Mountain Science Editors Participated in the Forum Regarding How to Improve the Contribution of Academic Journals to the Sci & Tech Innovation in China

      On the afternoon of 15 July 2014, editors from the Journal of Mountain Science (JMS) were invited to attend the forum regarding how to improve the contribution of academic journals to the scientific and technological innovation of China. This forum was among the Sichuan Province investigation agenda of China Association for Science and Technology. This time, four Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and one academician of the Academy of Engineering attended the forum and listened to the presentations from some excellent academic journals in Sichuan Province.

      As JMS is  one of the few academic journals being funded by the project for Enhancing International Impact of China STM Journals(PIIJ ) in West China, the journal editors were  honored to be invited to attend this forum on "How to enhance the contribution of  English Academic Journals to  the Scientific and Technological Innovation of China". In the presentation, Executive Chief Editor QIU Dun-lian talked about her understanding about the important role of scientific journals in the performance in the scientific and technological innovation of China. She emphasized the point that academic journals are their selves a kind of scientific and technological innovation. Academic journals shoulders the responsibility in assembling talents, exhibiting research achievements and their own self should updating the management organization to maintain their vitality. Based on our own experience, she talked about how to organize the editorial board and improve the efficiency of manuscript process. After funded by the Project for Enhancing International Impact of China STM Journals sponsored by China Association for Science and Technology, the journal has implemented a series of development strategies to raise the journal's international profile. Professor QIU gave suggestions on how to improve the performance of academic journals in China, including implementing more flexible state-level journal policies, to improve research assessment systems and to develop better manuscript system.
 
Prof. QIU Dunlian, the executive editor-in-chief of the Journal of Mountain Science was reporting the journal's work to the specialists.
 
      Another four presentations were given by the journals managed by the West China Medical Center of Sichuan University. It currently owned ten academic journals and two of them are included in Web of Science. The Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Oral Science, Professor ZHOU Xue-dong told their practice in f attracting high quality manuscripts and promoting the journal internationally. This journal was awarded Class A funding support in the Project for Enhancing International Impact of China STM Journals. 
       Professor WEI Yu-quan, Vice president of Sichuan University, introduced their strategy to establish a new journal Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy. This journal obtained Class C funding support from China Association for Science and Technology too. Prof. LI Ling from Chinese Journal of Medical Genetics introduced the history and development of this journal. As a Chinese journal dedicated in genetic research, this journal reports the most updated information about genetic disease diagnosis and promotes gene test industry. The director from the editorial office of Chinese Journal of Ocular Fundus Disease presented the management and focus of this journal. By focusing on hot topics, this journal strives for promoting the basic research of ocular fundus disease and by various academic projects such as holding training courses on ocular fundus disease, it provides a good platform to communicate for doctors and scientists from home and abroad.

     The experts from China Association for Science and Technology spoke highly of all the five presentations and encouraged the efforts made by these journals in enhancing the journal impact and promoting the scientific and technological innovation development. The practices and experiences from other journals set an good example for the JMS editors to learn from .
